Objective
Amanat Alriyadh (Riyadh Municipality) commissioned Interactive Saudi Arabia Ltd. to upgrade it’s public portal website. Although, the old site provided the public with valuable content, Amanat Alriyadh wanted to move to a more service oriented website, that -in addition to delivering rich content about Riyadh city- will host new electronic services that will benefit site visitors.
Challenges
Amanat Alriyadh is a very large government organization with multiple legacy database application running on different platforms (Windows, Unix, VMS, etc..). ISA system analysts spent quite a time finding an efficient yet secure solution to integrate the new online service with Amana backbone applications. Also, the portal was required to be based on a state of the art content management system that will enable site administrators to control both content and new online services that are bespoke developed for Amana.
Solution
ISA used its home built content management system; Weblisher.NET, to deliver a portal rich in content. The solution provided Amanat Alriyadh with a powerful administration interface to dynamically update content and provided various means for end users to interact with Amanat Alriyadh.
As the owners of the source code and intellectual properties of Weblisher.NET CMS, Interactive Saudi Arabia had the unique opportunity to extend this already feature-rich content management system and add online services and e-government administration tools to the common back-end interface that is used to author, publish and manage content. And, with a unified administration interface for all the services and tools that is intuitive and bilingual (Arabic/English). Amanat Alriyadh site authors and administrators were able to manage very sophisticated processes in very short time and with minimal training requirements.
Web Services was used to integrate the existing legacy systems with the new online services. Security and size of the transferred data was carefully handled, as there was many concerns on exposing Amanat Alriyadh data to the internet securely and with good speed rates.
